Let Them Hate Me, So Long As They Fear Me: The Reign of Caligula
Welcome to ancient Rome, under the rule and reign of one of the most infamous emperors of all time, the great Caligula. Originally welcomed to power and renowned by his constituents, Caligula began his reign by ending previous tyranny and gaining the love and adoration of the Roman people. Shortly into his rule, however, he falls gravely ill and emerges a madman. From making his horse consul of the army to his scandalous affairs to careless spending of the Roman fortune, Caligula has tarnished the name, function, and reputation of Imperial Rome. Delegates in this committee will represent members of the Roman Senate, tasked at regulating and handling the public crisis caused by Caligula’s plunge to insanity. Governed by fear and terror, public image of the Senate is lowering by the day. As Caligula himself once said, “Let them hate me, so long as they fear me!”
